One Person Shot Dead in Yendi.
One person, Mohammed Gadafi has been shot dead, with two persons arrested in Yendi during curfew hours
The two persons were arrested with AK47 assault raffle in an abandoned house, when the newly selected Yaa-Naa was being ushered into Dagbon secret house (Katini) at the old Gbewaa palace to commence the Namship rituals.
The remains of the deceased has since been deposited at the Yendi government hospital morgue for preservation.
Confirming the incident to NorthernWebGh.com, the Northern regional public relations officer of the police, Dsp Ussif Tanko said “within the hours of the curfew as the rituals were about to commence at the Gbewaa palace in line with the customs and traditions on the enskinment of the newly selected Yaa-Naa, there were sudden sporadic shootings in the presence of security from unknown gun men from an abandoned house located a few meters away from the main Gbewaa palace where the rites were being performed”.
According to him security personnel on ground returned fire towards the gunmen direction and persuaded them.
He said police and military surrounded the building in which they were occupying.
“The arrested men have since refused to disclose their identity to police. The body was sent to the Yendi Government Hospital morgue for preservation after he was confirmed died by Mr. Alid Hamza nurse on duty at the emergency block of the said health facility”.
He said the performance of the rituals rites, after the clash continued amidst drumming and firing of musketry with tight security.
Dsp Tanko assured that the situation at the Gbewaa Palace, and the entire Yendi municipality are under control and being monitored.
However, NorthernWebGh.com has gathered that one person died this morning in connection with the shootings. The group are suspected to have been contracted by invisible hands to prevent the new Yaa-Naa from entering the Katini.
