NDC blew over GHC1m on ‘awful’ ‘kum yen preko’ demo – Ramadan

Ghanaians found a savior in President Nana Akufo-Addo from the “ineptitude” and “incompetence” of the Mahama administration, a Deputy Director General of the National Disaster Management Organisation, Mr Abu Ramadan has said.

In a post-‘kum y?n pr?ko’ demonstration debate on CTV’s Ghana Kasa political talk show on Wednesday, 10 July 2019 hosted by Israel Venunye, Mr Ramadan described the march as the “most expensive” yet “most awful” in the history of the Fourth Republic Constitution, since, according to him, there was “no massive turnout”.

“It has never happened before” in Ghana, he said, revealing that over GHS1 million was used for the demonstration which he nicknamed “Kempinski demonstration”.

He said though the demonstration sought to create the impression that Ghanaians were suffering, it ended up doing otherwise.

Mr Ramadan explained: “Over 35 buses were rented to convey people to the demonstration grounds” while the marchers “printed messages on placards; does that reflect hardship?” he wondered.

In his estimation, the demonstration was so partisan that one expected nothing but aspersions and allegations to be flung at the Akufo-Addo government since about 80 per cent of the demonstrators were in John Mahama 2020- and John Mahama 2016-branded t-shirts.

“What do you expect them to tell us? Do you expect them to tell President Nana Akufo-Addo that he is doing well? I said it is the most expensive and the turnout was awful”, Mr Ramadan told Israel Venunye.

“The people of Ghana”, he said: “Were saved from the ineptitude and the incompetence of the NDC”, he asserted, stressing: “Ghanaians were saved from the incompetence of John Mahama and his government”.

Mr Ramadan conceded that although “it is not easy” fulfilling all the promises made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2016 general elections, “Inshallah, before 7 December 2020, I can beat my chest and tell you that we would have delivered 80 to 90 per cent of the promises”.

For instance, he noted that 275 ambulances have been procured through the $1million-per-constituency programme to ensure that every constituency in Ghana has an ambulance.

In his view, the NDC is repeating its mistakes, adding that the party has not learned its lessons.

“Even in opposition, they are still incompetent”, Mr Ramadan said. “The NDC should start telling us the alternative”.

In his view, President Akufo-Addo will beat the NDC by an even wider margin in the 2020 elections than what happened in the 2016 polls, since, according to him, the impact of the government’s policies would have been felt much better by the ordinary Ghanaian in the coming one-and-a-half years.
